Thanks for this through review of Zemanta. We try our hardest to have all the images that are recommended properly licensed for bloggers. That means that even in case of “fair-use”, we talked to the image provider (like Crunchbase) to make sure they’re OK with what we’re doing with their images.

Your advice is really valid, since copyright is much different between countries. In general most of the images like stock from Getty Images and Daylife, as well as all the Creative commons and GFDL images from Flickr should be ok. That’s what most of the images are anyway.

Your comment about language is correct. The issue with different languages is that, once we solve the language issue itself, we still have to link to different wikipedia’s and image providers and these databases are not yet large enough to be able to provide meaningful service anyway. With the rapid development of web, I’m sure we’ll get there in a few short years.
